How to use it

The COSMO window, recorded while the settings are moved.
  1. Open Tools and click the tool: it is added after the selected step.
  2. Move its settings: the image follows as you move them (Live preview).
  3. Press Apply to keep the result. Before / after compares at any time.

Settings

Amount
How far the bright regions come down.
Layers
The wavelet layers kept as they are; what is larger is compressed. Fewer layers flatten finer structures.
Mask
Everywhere, Bright parts (the object, not the sky) or Dark parts. Stars are not in the mask.
Threshold
Where the mask starts, from the sky background (0 %) to the brightest part of the object (100 %).

When to use it

When a bright core is burnt out next to faint surroundings: a nebula core, a galaxy, a globular cluster.

Image

Works only on a stretched image.
