Licence
End-user licence agreement
Version 1.0 — 13 October 2026
This agreement is between you and Jonathan Durand, the author of COSMO ("the Author"). By installing or using COSMO ("the Software") you accept it. If you do not accept it, do not install or use the Software.
1. What the software is
The Software comprises the COSMO application, its stacker, its documentation and the trained neural networks delivered with it for star separation, noise reduction and sharpening ("the Networks").
2. What you may do
The Author grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence, free of charge, to install the Software on computers you own or control and to use it to process your own images, for private or professional purposes. The images you produce with the Software are yours.
3. What you may not do
Unless the law that applies to you gives you a right that cannot be excluded, you may not:
a) redistribute, sell, rent, lend, sublicense or host the Software or any part of it for others to
download — share the link to the official download page instead;
b) extract, copy, convert or use the Networks outside the Software, or use them or their outputs to train,
distil or evaluate another model intended to reproduce their function;
c) decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer the Software, or remove the protection applied to the
Networks;
d) modify the Software, or create works derived from it;
e) remove or alter any copyright, trademark or licence notice.
4. Ownership
The Software is licensed, not sold. The Author keeps all rights in the Software, in the Networks and in the name and logo "COSMO". Nothing in this agreement gives you a right to use that name or logo other than to say truthfully that an image was processed with COSMO.
5. Third-party software
The Software includes open-source components, each under its own licence; they are listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt, delivered with the Software. Nothing in this agreement limits the rights those licences give you over those components. The Software can use GraXpert and RC-Astro products installed on your computer; they are not part of the Software and remain subject to their publishers' terms.
6. No warranty
The Software is provided "as is", free of charge, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and absence of errors. It is an image-processing tool: its measurements are estimates and its results must not be relied on for scientific, navigational, medical or safety purposes.
7. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the Author is not liable for any damage arising from the use of the Software or the impossibility of using it, including loss of data or of images. Keep copies of your original files. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
8. Termination
This licence ends automatically if you breach it. You must then stop using the Software and delete every copy. Sections 3 to 7 survive.
9. Changes
A later version of the Software may come with a different agreement. This one continues to apply to the version it was delivered with.
10. Governing law
This agreement is governed by French law. If part of it is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
